Maintenance Technician

Core competencies: Mechanical theory and application Fluid system theory and application Read technical drawings and schematics Measuring devices and their uses Fabrication OSHA safety rules for manufacturing plants Understanding of electricity and electrical safety Operation and use of hand tools Operation and use of power tools Functional knowledge of computers and Microsoft office Functional ability to clearly communicate via electronic media Description of Duties: This multi-craft position (mechanical and minor electrical) will provide emergency and routine maintenance support to the operations departments in a machine intensive, heavy industrial environment. Maintains and repairs machinery, equipment, piping, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems of production machinery in the plant. Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and fluid power components. Listens, observes, and tests machines or equipment to detect malfunction or abnormality and discusses machine operation variations with Supervisors, Foreman, Engineers, Production Operators, and other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machines. Operates equipment to test for malfunctions, and to verify proper repairs. Responsible for the repair and maintenance of mechanical drive systems, steam, water, air, hand valves, piping, and minor electrical work in the main plant and warehouse. Documents time spent on job to include troubleshooting, repair, delays, preparation, part and tool retrieval, etc. in an effort to enable continuous improvement and craftsmen utilization. Required to document all work performed accurately in computerized maintenance management system. Observes and adheres to all safety rules and accepted practices at all times to avoid accidents and/or injuries. Qualified candidates will be required to pass a technical skill assessment written examination, undergo a one-on-one technical interview, and Human Resources Interview. Starting pay $29.16 / hour. The work weeks runs Sunday through Saturday. Applicants must be able to work either day shift or night shift. Day shift is from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. Night shift is from 6 P.M. to 6 A.M. Firestone is a continuous operations plant. Teammates must be able to work a shift schedule with 48 hours one week (4 days) and 36 hours the next week (3 days). Minimum Required Qualifications: High School Diploma/GED equivalent 3+ years industrial maintenance in multi-craft environment OR 3+ years high tech maintenance related military experience OR completed apprenticeship program and 2+ years industrial maintenance experience. Candidate must possess general computer skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, mechanical drawings, pneumatics, and hydraulic schematics and procedure manuals.
