Research Assistant (CSG29)

Category: Academic | Department: Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health | Closing Date: 16 Aug 2015 | We seek to recruit a talented scientist to undertake a full-time position designed to offer epidemiological and statistical analysis of cancer survival in England for use in national publications, in collaboration with the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which provides the funding for this post. The post-holder will work independently as well as with other epidemiologists and statisticians on the national cancer survival statistics as well as research in pursuit of the aims of the Cancer Survival Group. This will include carrying out cancer survival analyses and looking at trends and socio-demographic patterns in cancer survival, using the latest techniques as these evolve. Amongst other duties s/he will also be the first point of contact for information on the portfolio of projects on which the Cancer Survival Group and ONS collaborate.The post-holder will have an MSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and an excellent understanding of the concepts of epidemiology, particularly survival and mortality. Research experience in epidemiology or biostatistics would be an advantage, as would experience in programming in STATA or specialised statistical software. S/he will be part of the wider Cancer Research UK Cancer Survival Group, a dynamic research group of nearly 30 people led by Professor Michel Coleman and Dr Bernard Rachet at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This full-time position, funded by ONS and based in London, is available from 1 September 2015 and currently funded until 31 March 2017. The starting salary will be on the Academic Pathway, Grade 5 in the range: £32,324-£34,970 per annum (inclusive of London weighting) and will be subject to LSHTM terms and conditions.
