Deputy Fire Chief

Plans, directs, and controls activities as assigned by the Fire Chief and monitors the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned divisions/bureaus. Provides Fire Chief with input for departmental long-range planning and annual goals and objectives. Assignment may be in either Support Services or Operations Division:

Support Services: Oversees operations in the areas of: Fire Prevention Bureau, Training Division, Medical Services Division, Communications, Accreditation and Technology.   Fire department liaison to City Departments and regional partners.  Works under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief, creates and recommends policies, procedures, and budgets for Support Services. Directly supervises Fire Marshal, Training Battalion Chief, and Medical Officer.

Emergency Services: Oversees operations in the areas of:  Operations Division (fire suppression, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and rescue operations), apparatus, equipment and facilities. Works under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief; creates and recommends policies, procedures and budgets for Emergency Services. Directly supervises Battalion Chiefs assigned to emergency services.

Ensures department goals and objectives are met within established timeframes and budget while adhering to budget guidelines. Implements the Department's Strategic Plan to meet the community's expectations for service. Coordinates inter-department activities, fire department and community activities, fire department activities with other City departments, and activities with other fire service agencies.  Resolves personnel issues, citizen complaints; holds employees accountable and takes corrective action as required.  Will assist in collective bargaining negotiations as a management representative. Monitors the efficiency/effectiveness of assignments.
