Under the general administrative direction of the City Manager, the Parks and Recreation Director provides comprehensive oversight and management of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department.   

The Parks and Recreation Director performs complex professional, administrative, and technical duties related to the management and oversight of public park facilities and community programs. The Parks and Recreation Director is also responsible for volunteer programs and human services. This position is responsible for short- and long-range planning, capital facility development, maintenance of parks and public facilities, community programming and serves as a resource to the City Manager, other City departments, and the City Council on a variety of policy and operational issues.  The Sammamish Parks and Recreation Department manages nearly 600-acres of park land including waterfront parks, open space preserves and athletic fields.  The City of Sammamish follows a contract-for-service operating model.  In keeping with this approach, Sammamish provides all recreational activities via service contracts and partnerships with recreation service providers such as the YMCA and the Boys and Girls Club. A portion of park maintenance services are also provided by contract. The Parks and Recreation Director is responsible for maintaining positive working relationships with these service providers.  The Parks and Recreation Department consists of 17 FTEs and has a reputation for providing high-quality service.
