Research Fellow in Spatial Epidemiology (ITD-DCD-01)

Category: Academic | Department: Department of Disease Control | Closing Date: 08 Mar 2016 | Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Spatial Epidemiology specialising in advanced statistics and modelling to join a multidisciplinary team working on the spatial mapping and modelling of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) (http://bit.ly/1HivLGM). The person will undertake geospatial analysis and modelling of disease distributions and use computer simulation to evaluate alternative sampling and surveillance strategies for NTDs. The post will be based in the Department of Disease Control at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The department offer excellent research facilities and a friendly and stimulating working environment. We are seeking applicants with PhD-level qualification in statistics, mathematical modelling, statistical epidemiology or relevant quantitative subject. Ability to develop complex statistics models and strong programming skills are essential, including modelling spatial stochastic process using MCMC and/or approximate inference approaches. Applicants should be able to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team. We will expect the applicant to be a key contributor to method development, strategic decision-making given computational infrastructure, and refining methods and improve results given data availability.    The appointment is funded by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation until 30th June 2017 in the first instance, with a possibility for further renewal.
