Research Fellow (Ethiopia) (DPH3)

Category: Academic | Department: Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health | Closing Date: 10 Jul 2015 | We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work on a Government of Ethiopia Ministry of Health project on multi-sectoral approaches to improved child feeding in Ethiopia.  LSHTM is supporting the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) to conduct feasibility research on a new package of integrated delivery approaches for health and agriculture extension workers to be implemented within a community-based nutrition programme, and to design the programme evaluation. The appointed Research Fellow will be based full-time in EPHI in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and will support EPHI staff working on the programme.  The post holder will make major contributions to the review and development of behaviour change communication approaches and materials, the design and conduct of feasibility research, and the design and planning of the programme evaluation.  The post holder will also work to transfer knowledge and capacity to EPHI staff including training and support for analysis and report writing. The successful applicant will have an MSc in public health nutrition, public health or a relevant subject.  It is essential to have experience in quantitative research methods and in capacity building in public health. The post holder will also have excellent written and verbal skills in Amharic and English, and ability to work independently as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. It is desirable for the post holder to have experience in formative or feasibility research to inform programme design, or other qualitative research; and experience of interaction with decision-makers or other research users in Ethiopia is preferred.   This full-time post is funded by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation until 31 January 2016 and is available to start as soon as possible. Salary is on LSHTM’s academic pathway Grade 6 (£37,106 to £42,139 per annum) depending on qualifications and experience. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.
