Under the general administrative direction of the City Manager, the Public Works Director provides comprehensive oversight and management of the City’s Public Works Department. The Public Works Department, which consists of two functional units – Engineering and Maintenance and Operations, is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of city streets and storm drains, and maintenance of city parks through the use of staff and contracted services. The Public Works Director oversees the development and implementation of major departmental policies and plans; executes both short and long-range programs; and coordinates departmental activities with other city's departments and private or civic organizations.
The Public Works Department has 30.5 FTEs, plus as many as 21 seasonal/temporary employees during peak workload periods. Its 2015-2016 biennial budget totals $46.2 million.
