Category: Academic | Department: Faculty of Infectious & Tropical Diseases | Closing Date: 06 May 2016 | We are seeking to appoint a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work in the laboratory of Dr Teresa Cortes at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The new appointee will work on a European Research Council funded project and will be involved in characterising molecular mechanisms associated with selective translation of specific mRNA subsets in the human pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of human tuberculosis, and assess how they contribute to biological adaptation in this pathogen. The post is full-time and will be based at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s laboratories in London. The successful applicant will be directly involved in purification and characterisation of mycobacterial ribosomes as well as high throughput translatome analysis through ribosome profiling and mass-spectrometry. The post holder will have a PhD in biology, biochemistry or related discipline, and should have extensive experience in molecular biology, bacteriology and protein biochemistry. Previous experience in ribosome purification, ribosome profiling and/or mass-spectrometry would be highly advantageous. In addition, experience with experimental laboratory work in a containment 3 laboratory is desirable. The post is funded by the European Research Council up to 31 January 2019 and is available from 1st August 2016. Salary is on the Academic Pathway Grade 6 from £37,477 to £42,560 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). Applications should be made online via our website at jobs.lshtm.ac.uk.
