Research Fellow in Statistical Genetics (EPH-NCDE-03)

Category: Academic | Department: Faculty of Epidemiology & Population Health | Closing Date: 28 Apr 2016 | We are seeking to appoint a talented statistician to contribute to our programme of methodological research in genetic epidemiology. The post holder will work on methods to identify and exploit the polygenic basis of complex diseases.  Areas of research will include genetic prediction of disease risk and prognosis, and Mendelian randomisation.  The post holder will work closely with collaborators in cardiovascular, psychiatric and immunological genetics to optimise the analysis of large, intensively phenotyped cohorts. The post holder will also be required to participate in report-writing and preparation of scientific papers. The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching of epidemiological or statistical methods for our post-graduate students, and provide academic support for research students. The successful applicant will have a PhD in Statistical Genetics or Biostatistics with experience of epidemiological data and excellent computer programming skills. Knowledge of statistical techniques used in genetic epidemiology, ideally with large-scale genetic databases, is essential. The post holder will be used to working independently and have experience of collaborating with biomedical scientists. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. It is available on a full-time basis from 1 July 2016 until 31 July 2017.  The appointment will be made on LSHTM’s Research Fellow scale with salary in the range £37,477-£42,560 depending on qualifications and experience. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time.  In addition to this there are discretionary "Director's Days".
