Research Assistant in Epidemiology and GIS (ITD-DCD-03)

Category: Academic | Department: Department of Disease Control | Closing Date: 11 Mar 2016 | Applications are invited for an epidemiologist who enjoys GIS and spatial analysis to join a multidisciplinary team working on the spatial mapping and modelling of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) (http://bit.ly/1HivLGM). The applicant will responsible for updating and maintaining the Global Atlas of Helminth Infection, including mapping epidemiological and intervention data, under the supervision of Dr Rachel Pullan, and will have the opportunity to contribute to operational research on the control NTDs. The position will be based in the Department of Disease Control at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The department offer excellent research facilities and a friendly and stimulating working environment. Primary responsibilities include to collate and abstract relevant data into a standardised geodatabase, and develop maps of the distribution of helminthic infections and intervention coverage. It is also expected that the post-holder will be keen to work flexibly and be involved in research projects currently undertaken by the group – for further details see http://bit.ly/1HivLGM.     We are seeking applicants with MSc level qualification in epidemiology, plus experience using GIS platforms to manage, visualise and analyse spatial data. They will have familiarity with handling large datasets and conducting epidemiological analyses using Stata or R. The post holder should be willing to travel both in the UK and internationally.    The appointment is funded by the Task Force for Global Health until 31st December 2016, in the first instance, with a possibility for further renewal.
