This is a temporary employee position reporting to the Beach Manager & Recreation Supervisor. Lifeguards are responsible for providing water safety and beach control at Luther Burbank Park Beach and Groveland Beach. Daily work is self-directed, lifeguards will receive general work assignments from the Beach Manager and Recreation Supervisor. Primary responsibilities included opening and preparing the beach for use by the public; maintaining records including time sheets, weekly attendance reports, accident reports, and preparing reports for the Recreation Supervisor; participating in in-service training during the season; guarding assigned beach area at all times; responding to emergencies; assisting in the maintenance of grounds and buildings at beach facility; responding to public inquiries regarding park rules and regulations; enforcing beach rules and conducting a swimming test when appropriate; and keeping all lifeguard, life-saving and first-aid equipment in good repair and ready for use. Lifeguards may be required to work special events, split shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

APPROX. HOURS: Up 40 hours per week, from June– August 2016 (approx)
Normal schedules will range between 18-40 hours per week
# OF POSITIONS: Twelve total: (9) beach guards, (3) head guards
SALARY: $11.00-$16.00 per hour (Depending on experience and position.)
